One NBA writer is proposing that the San Antonio Spurs acquire Wendell Carter Jr. and Markelle Fultz from the Orlando Magic.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Spurs and Magic:
Orlando Magic Receive: F Keldon Johnson, F Doug McDermott
San Antonio Spurs Receive: C Wendell Carter Jr., PG Markelle Fultz
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Magic are exploring the trade market for Fultz and Carter Jr. and Swartz believes both players could fit in well with the Spurs next to Victor Wembanyama.
“The Spurs should be excited to add a starting-caliber center in Carter next to Wembanyama, especially someone who’s still just 24 but playing in his sixth season,” Swartz wrote in his NBA trade proposal. “A point guard-needy San Antonio team also gets to take a look at Fultz before he becomes a free agent this summer.”

Fultz has appeared in only 10 games this season due to injuries. He’s averaging 8.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.3 blocks while shooting 45.8% from the field and 40.0% from the free-throw line. Fultz is 0-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Meanwhile, Carter Jr. is averaging 9.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 47.6% overall, 43.6% from 3 and 71.9% from the foul line. He has one double-double in 15 games.
Fultz is making $17 million this season. He becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. Carter Jr., meanwhile, is making $13.1 million.

The Spurs have the worst record in the Western Conference at 7-33. They will miss the playoffs for the fifth straight year. This season is all about Wembanyama’s development and adding two veterans like Fultz and Carter Jr. could make the game easier for Wembanyama.
