According to NBA insider Matt Moore of The Action Network, there continues to be internal tension with Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns’ lack of poise in certain game situations.

Towns is one of the most talented players in the NBA, but his short and long-term fit with the Timberwolves’ identity has been questioned by some.

“In league circles outside of Minnesota, though, the rumor mill continues to churn,” Moore wrote. “It has been suggested by multiple executives that there continues to be internal tension with Towns’ lack of poise in certain game situations. Anthony Edwards has become the clear on-court leader of the team, with Kyle Anderson and Rudy Gobert along with Mike Conley providing the veteran voices they need. Where does that leave Towns?”

Towns is averaging 21.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks for the Timberwolves this season while shooting 50.5% from the field, 40.1% from beyond the arc and 89.3% from the free-throw line. The three-time All-Star has 15 double-doubles.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves Updates

The Timberwolves have the best record in the Western Conference at 24-9, so they probably won’t trade Towns this season. However, it’s worth mentioning that the New York Knicks continue to be linked to a Towns trade.

Towns is a client of CAA, where Knicks president Leon Rose once ran the basketball division. Knicks senior vice president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas worked with Towns from 2019 to 2021 when the two were with the Timberwolves and New York executive vice president of basketball operations William Wesley followed Rose from CAA to the Knicks.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves Updates

If the Timberwolves don’t go on a deep playoff run this year, perhaps the front office will entertain a Towns trade in the offseason. For now, though, it looks like Minnesota is building around Towns, Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert, while New York is building around OG Anunoby, Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle.
