Look at Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks. This is one of the best playmakers in the NBA. Unfortunately, his defensive limitations make him hard to build around. Young has improved, but his small frame still makes him easy to exploit in certain matchups.
As a result, the Hawks have tried to build around him. It hasn’t been easy. Ultimately, the best solution might be to send him to a tailor-made team to complement him.

When a player is reaching star status, fans get optimistic. In the beginning, it’s hard to imagine them failing. The stakes are low when a team is rebuilding. Once they’re raised, those limitations become more evident.
With that in mind, Magic fans are optimistic about Paolo Banchero at the moment. So they should be. Banchero will be a viable number-one option in this league. Who knows? He could lead Orlando to a title.

On the other hand, Banchero could have limitations that are currently unseen. It will be interesting to track this Magic team.

Unfortunately, Isaac would be the ideal player to pair with Young – in theory. In practice, he’s extremely injury prone. Either way, it’s a moot point. Orlando would have to include his contract to make the money work here.
It could still be a deal worth making. The Magic have plenty of defense outside of Isaac. They’ve been one of the best defensive teams in the NBA this year. The Magic can handle having Young on their roster.

Offensively, he should help them take the next step. Orlando’s core would be Banchero, Young, and Franz Wagner. They should work their way into the title picture if they can surround that trio with shooters and defenders.

Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
When the Hawks acquired Dejounte Murray, they were thinking about Young’s defense. That may have been a mistake. The pair doesn’t seem to work on offense. Young and Murray are both at their best with the ball in their hands.
The Hawks may have to cut their losses. Some will say that if they’re going to do so, they should trade Murray. Fair – but they’ll get more value for Young. Meanwhile, they’ve already put ample effort into trying to build around him.

A fresh start might be appealing. This deal gives the Hawks one. They’d be picking up three unprotected first-round picks. Ideally, they’ll be able to use one of those plcks to draft a player who’s easy to build around.
