Jalen Brunson’s exceptional shooting performance set the tone for the New York Knicks’ 139-122 win over the Phoenix Suns during Friday’s NBA action, even as one of his 3-pointers took a fortuitous bounce off the rim.

Brunson achieved a career-best 50 points, flawlessly making all nine of his 3-point attempts, contributing to the Knicks’ victory. The guard’s accuracy was remarkable, hitting 17 of 23 shots overall, including a perfect 12 of 12 in the second half. This feat made him the first player in Knicks’ history to score 50 points with nine made 3-pointers.

“I had no idea,” Brunson said. “I was just playing free.”

The Suns, who lost Bradley Beal to an ankle injury in the first quarter, have been struggling recently, losing six of their last eight games. On the other hand, the Knicks have been gaining momentum, winning two of their last three matches.

Kevin Durant of the Suns acknowledged the Knicks’ proficiency, particularly their pick-and-roll plays. Despite leading by 10 points in the third quarter, the Suns only had a narrow 99-97 advantage going into the final quarter, largely due to Brunson’s 19 points in the third, which included five 3-pointers.

“They made shots and just got hot and aggressive,” Durant said. “They killed us in the pick and roll and that was the game.”

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau praised Brunson’s shooting as something special. The Knicks took control in the fourth quarter with a 13-4 run and maintained their lead to secure the win.

“The way he shot the ball was special,” Thibodeau said.

For the Suns, Durant led with 29 points, and Devin Booker added 28. Durant had scored 17 points in the first half, helping the Suns to a 68-63 lead at halftime, while Brunson led the Knicks with 15 points.

Beal’s injury occurred when he landed on the foot of Knicks’ Donte DiVincenzo after making a 3-point shot. DiVincenzo was called for a Flagrant 1 foul for not allowing Beal landing space. Beal, who has been battling a sore back this season, left the game after making his free throw, adding to the Suns’ injury woes.

Suns coach Frank Vogel confirmed that Beal suffered a sprained ankle but fortunately, X-rays were negative. Vogel expressed his concern for Beal, acknowledging the frustration of his injury-prone season.

“Injuries are a part of the game,” Vogel said. “I’m disappointed for him. You could see the disappointment on his face in the back. That’s my biggest concern, keeping him lifted. He’ll get back soon enough, but it’s been a frustrating injury type of season for him.”

Looking forward, the Knicks will face the Los Angeles Clippers, while the Suns will host Washington in their upcoming games.
