The New York Knicks checked in with the Minnesota Timberwolves about Karl-Anthony Towns earlier this season.

However, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic, the Knicks never made an offer for Towns.

Knicks senior vice president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas worked with Towns from 2019 to 2021 when he ran the Timberwolves. Towns is also a client of CAA, where Knicks president Leon Rose once ran the basketball division. Knicks executive vice president of basketball operations William Wesley followed Rose from CAA to New York as well.

However, the Knicks have not made a serious run at Towns in recent years, per Katz. The Timberwolves are not interested in trading Towns since they have the top record in the NBA.

Towns is averaging 21.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 0.7 blocks this season while shooting 50.9% from the field, 42.9% from beyond the arc and 90.1% from the free-throw line.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks Updates

The Knicks have made it clear to other teams that they want a star, but they also don’t expect one to become available in the middle of the season. The longing for superstar center Joel Embiid has decreased as the Philadelphia 76ers continue to win after trading James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Most NBA observers believe the Knicks need one more star next to Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson to seriously compete for a title. Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, who was born and raised in New York, is the All-Star most linked to the Knicks.
