According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the New York Knicks are monitoring the trade market for a star player.
The Knicks have multiple young players and draft picks to trade for a star.
The Knicks have been linked to Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns, Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, Chicago Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS:Â New York Knicks Updates
Knicks president of basketball operations Leon Rose used to run CAA. He has ties to Towns and Embiid. Many people around the NBA are surprised Rose hasn’t made a blockbuster trade yet. The Knicks tried to trade for Mitchell in the offseason of 2022, but the Utah Jazz traded Mitchell to the Cavaliers.
Led by Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, the Knicks got to the second round of the playoffs last season. They beat the Cavaliers in the first round in five games but lost to the Miami Heat in the second round in six games.
Most league observers believe the Knicks will eventually find a way to land Mitchell, who grew up in New York. Mitchell’s former teammate on the Jazz thinks Mitchell will play for the Knicks in the future. Orlando Magic swingman Joe Ingles joined DJ and PK on 97.5 The KSL Sports Zone and predicted that Mitchell would be a member of the Knicks.
“This is like non-bias, no outside info, I think he’ll play for New York one day, whether that’s sooner or later,” Ingles said. “I think it would be great for New York and I think it would be great for him. Whether or not that actually happens we’ll wait and see.”
