The Toronto Raptors are concerned about potential teams who could give forward OG Anunoby a shorter-term max contract due to the weak free agent market next offseason, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Anunoby is expected to decline his player option for next season and enter unrestricted free agency after this season.
“Toronto is concerned about potential teams who could give Anunoby a shorter-term max contract due to the weak free agent market, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote. “As outlined on The HoopsHype Podcast, the Philadelphia 76ers are one of the potential teams who could give Anunoby a max contract this summer. Philadelphia could also try to trade for Anunoby and re-sign him with Bird Rights while keeping Tobias Harris.”

Anunoby is averaging 15.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists this season while shooting 47.3% from the field, 40.4% from beyond the arc and 60.7% from the free-throw line. He’s one of the top two-way players in the NBA.
Anunoby has career averages of 11.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals. He won the 2019 championship with the Raptors and has made one All-NBA Defensive team and won one steals title.
Anunoby is looking for greater ball-handling opportunities that can result in a commensurate salary increase, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, and that may not be available to him in Toronto since the Raptors are building around Scottie Barnes.
