New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III could make his season debut soon, according to Christian Clark of Nola.com.
Murphy III underwent surgery to repair a slightly torn left meniscus in September.
“Trey Murphy III has not played at all this season. In September, Murphy had surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his left knee. More than 11 weeks post-surgery, Murphy is getting close to returning to game action,” Clark wrote. “While he is unlikely to play this week, there is optimism he could play next week, multiple sources said.”

Murphy III appeared in 79 games for the Pelicans last season. He averaged 14.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 48.4% from the field, 40.6% from beyond the arc and 90.5% from the free-throw line.
Murphy III has career averages of 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists with the Pelicans. He was the 17th overall pick in the 2021 draft out of Virginia. Murphy III made 202 3-pointers last season. That was good for 19th in the NBA.
The Pelicans are 9-9 on the season. They are currently on a two-game losing streak after losing back-to-back games against the Utah Jazz on the road.
New Orleans is 25th in the league in 3-point field goals, so the team desperately needs Murphy III back in the lineup.
