The New York Knicks are interested in acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns, but the Minnesota Timberwolves don’t plan to trade the All-Star big man, according to Matt Moore of The Action Network.
There is a widespread belief that Towns is available in trade discussions, a claim that sources close to the Timberwolves continue to say is overblown, if not outright wrong.
There is a feeling in league circles that aren’t involved with the Timberwolves or Knicks that the Towns-to-Knicks rumors are largely being promoted from within New York.
The Timberwolves remain open to discussions on improving the team, but they are not “shopping” Towns, who is averaging 21.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks this season while shooting 46.5% from the field, 33.8% from beyond the arc and 92.1% from the free-throw line.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves Updates
The Knicks are “monitoring” Towns’ situation with the Timberwolves, according to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News. Multiple sources told Bondy that Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau would welcome coaching Towns again. Thibodeau coached Towns on the Timberwolves.
Knicks president Leon Rose used to be Towns’ agent when he was at CAA, which is why some people around the NBA believe New York will figure out a way to acquire Towns.
However, it takes two teams to make a trade and it doesn’t look like the Timberwolves will part ways with Towns anytime soon.
