The Golden State Warriors are NBA title contenders. Right? This is something we’ve all gotten used to. The Warriors are a perennial title hopeful. Surely, they’re in the mix this season.
We will see. At the moment, the Warriors have lost five games in a row. They may be title contenders, but they haven’t looked the part.
In all likelihood, this team needs to make a trade if they’re going to get into the title picture. To be specific, this team could use some shot creation.
Outside of Steph Curry, this team is light on players who can create offense in the halfcourt. It just so happens that a dynamic offensive guard seems to be on the trade market.
Could the Warriors make a move for Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls?
NBA Trade Proposal: Golden State Warriors Land Chicago Bulls’ Zach LaVine
Chicago Bulls Receive: G/F Klay Thompson, 2026 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2028 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2029 First-Round Pick (Swap – GSW)
Golden State Warriors Receive: G/F Zach LaVine, F Torrey Craig
The Chicago Bulls are not title contenders. We knew this. Frankly, the Bulls haven’t been title contenders in a long time. The last time we thought they had a real shot, Derrick Rose was in his prime.
Some younger readers may know Rose as a solid reserve guard on the Memphis Grizzlies. They should learn some history. Rose was the youngest MVP in NBA history. Still, that was a long time ago.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors Updates
The Bulls have been floundering since. The most recent era of Chicago basketball has been marred by disappointment. Now, they’re expected to rebuild.
Does this deal get them off to the right start?
Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Realistically, the Bulls have been resisting a rebuild for over a decade. The fact that they’re apparently looking to move LaVine is a positive in and of itself. This team needs to rebuild, and it seems as if they’re going to do exactly that.
What should they seek in exchange for LaVine? Above all else, draft capital. The Bulls should look for the most picks they can find for the star guard.
Based on the current market, we suspect that a pair of first-round picks and a swap is a good return for LaVine. Otherwise, they’d do well to preserve financial flexibility.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors Updates
This deal achieves that goal – Thompson is on an expiring contract. The Bulls might buy him out, or just let his deal run for the rest of the season and let him walk in free agency.
Should the Warriors part with their longtime franchise cornerstone?
Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
Thompson has been a mainstay in Golden State. With that said, he is not the player that he used to be. Perhaps that’s why the Warriors are apparently apprehensive about offering him an extension next summer.
So, we’ve got them saying goodbye. If the Warriors aren’t going to pay Thompson, they’d do better to move him. Of course, this isn’t a salary dump.
The Warriors are bringing in a star player. Is LaVine a good fit for this group? We think so. We’ve never seen LaVine in a system like the Warriors’.
