Julius Randle resisted attempts from the New York Knicks to get him to rest his surgically repaired ankle, according to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News.

Randle underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle this past offseason and has gotten off to a poor shooting start this season. However, the two-time All-Star did not want to miss any games.

The 28-year-old Randle is averaging 16.5 points, 11.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season while shooting 31.6% from the field, 25.9% from beyond the arc and 66.7% from the free-throw line.

The Knicks are 4-4 through eight games. They will need Randle to shoot the ball better moving forward if they want to have a successful season.

Randle averaged 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists last season while shooting 45.9% from the floor, 34.3% from beyond the arc and 75.7% from the free-throw line. The lefty signed a four-year, $117.1 million extension with the Knicks in August 2021. The Kentucky product is making $25.6 million this season and will make $27.6 million in 2024-25.

Randle thinks he’s at his best when he’s aggressively attacking the basket instead of settling for jumpers.

“I think the key to it — I’ve always been an inside-out player,” Randle said. “And that’s how I’ve been more efficient. So just gotta keep building off that and keep getting more efficient as the games go by.”

The All-Star shot only 3-of-14 from the floor in Game 6 versus the Heat in South Beach.
