One NBA writer is proposing that the Minnesota Timberwolves acquire Julius Randle from the New York Knicks in a blockbuster deal. Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Timberwolves and Knicks:

Knicks Receive: Karl-Anthony Towns

Timberwolves Receive: Julius Randle, Isaiah Hartenstein, protected first-round pick

Conway believes Randle is a natural power forward who is a significantly better fit next to Rudy Gobert than Towns is. Randle averaged 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists for the Knicks last season while shooting 45.9% from the field, 34.3% from beyond the arc and 75.7% from the free-throw line.

A two-time All-Star, Randle signed a four-year, $117 million extension with the Knicks in August 2021. He’s making $25,660,800 this season. The Timberwolves could start Mike Conley, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Randle and Gobert if Minnesota’s front office traded Towns to New York for Randle.

Randle has career NBA averages of 18.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists with the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans and Knicks. The star left CAA and signed with WME Sports in September. Knicks president Leon Rose used to run CAA, so many New York fans were puzzled to see Randle leave CAA for WME Sports.

The Timberwolves lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in five games. NBA insiders Tim MacMahon and Jamal Collier of ESPN believe Towns is a player who flew under the radar in free agency but could be a big storyline at the 2024 February trade deadline since the Timberwolves appear to be building around Anthony Edwards, who signed a five-year maximum contract extension that could be worth up to $260 million.
