New Orleans Pelicans head coach Willie Green believes Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are the best duo in the NBA.

After the Pelicans beat the Memphis Grizzlies in their first game of the season, Green sent the following message to Williamson and Ingram in the postgame locker room:

“I am going to keep saying it: Best freaking duo in the NBA,” Green told Williamson and Ingram. “They don’t talk about you enough. Best freaking duo in the NBA. You guys have to show up every night and be dominant.”

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Willie Green, New Orleans Pelicans Updates

The Pelicans have started the season 2-0. They beat the Grizzlies in Game 1 and the New York Knicks in Game 2. If Williamson and Ingram can stay healthy this season, New Orleans should be able to clinch a playoff spot in the rugged Western Conference.

Williamson is averaging 23.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists through the first two games of the 2023-24 season, while Ingram is putting up 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. The Pelicans are only 48-47 when Williamson and Ingram are in the lineup. That record should improve this season.

“It’s what I believe about those two guys,” Green said. “Who they are as people. Who they are as basketball players. But we still have a lot of work to do. We will continue putting it together.”

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Willie Green, New Orleans Pelicans Updates

The Pelicans drafted Williamson with the first overall pick in the 2019 draft and acquired Ingram from the Los Angeles Lakers in the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade on July 6, 2019. New Orleans has made the playoffs once in the Williamson-Ingram era. The team lost to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2022 postseason in six games.
