NBA insider Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the New York Knicks have made acquiring Joel Embiid from the Philadelphia 76ers their No. 1 priority. Knicks big man Julius Randle, when asked by reporters to react to the rumor, had this to say:
Knicks president Leon Rose used to be Embiid’s agent at CAA. Some NBA execs think Embiid could request a trade from the Sixers sooner rather than later since James Harden has asked for a trade and Philadelphia hasn’t gotten past the second round of the playoffs with Embiid.

Pompey reported that the Knicks are willing to offer the Sixers a package that includes Randle, RJ Barrett, Evan Fournier and Mitchell Robinson for Embiid. Randle, who signed a four-year, $117 million contract with New York in August 2021, is a two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA team member.
Embiid averaged 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds for the Sixers last season, en route to winning his first MVP Award. The Knicks have several draft picks the Sixers would likely ask for if Embiid requested a trade to New York.

Numerous NBA pundits are surprised Rose hasn’t made a blockbuster trade yet given all of his connections through CAA. It will be intriguing to see if Rose and the Knicks make a franchise-changing trade for Embiid in the future.
Both the Knicks and Sixers lost in the second round of the 2023 playoffs. New York lost to the Miami Heat in six games and Philadelphia fell to the Boston Celtics in seven games.
