Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro doesn’t lack confidence, that’s for certain. During an interview with NBA reporter Wes Goldberg of The Ringer, Herro didn’t hold back while talking about his scoring skills.

“I’m one of the best young scorers in the league,” Herro said, “and I have the potential to be the best scorer in the NBA at some point.”

Herro averaged 20.1 points for the Heat last season. He has career averages of 17.7 points. The Heat tried to acquire Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers this offseason and were prepared to move Herro.

However, the Blazers traded Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks and Herro was “ecstatic” when his agent told him he was staying with the Heat.

“I was happy. Ecstatic, really,” Herro said. “My family’s here, my kids, my [friends] live in Miami. Came from Milwaukee with me. Everything is in Miami. If I were to get traded, at the end of my career Miami will still be my home.”

Herro is expected to start this season for the Heat alongside Kyle Lowry, Josh Richardson, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Miami lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals in five games. Herro broke his hand in the first round of the playoffs versus the Bucks and never came back.

Herro knows he has many critics, but the Kentucky product admitted that the “goalpost always moves with me.” After being in trade rumors all offseason, it appears Herro is motivated to have his best year in the NBA this season.

“I think my name just gives people something to talk about every summer,” Herro said. “The goalpost always moves with me. At first, they said I wouldn’t be a 20-point scorer, then I’m a 20-point scorer. I don’t know what the hell they say now, but I’m sure there’s something.”
