One NBA writer is proposing that the New York Knicks make a blockbuster trade for Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, who used to be represented by Knicks president Leon Rose. Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade idea between the Knicks and Sixers:

The Knicks are monitoring Karl-Anthony Towns, Embiid and Donovan Mitchell as trade targets, according to NBA insider Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News. New York lost to the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games. Several NBA pundits are surprised Rose hasn’t made a massive trade yet given all of his connections through CAA. It will be fascinating to see if the Knicks make a franchise-altering trade this season.

Embiid, who won the NBA MVP Award last season, averaged 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds for the Sixers while shooting 54.8% from the field, 33.0% from beyond the arc and 85.7% from the free-throw line. Philadelphia swept the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the 2023 playoffs but lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in seven games. The Sixers haven’t gotten past the second round of the playoffs in the Embiid era.
Since Rose used to be Embiid’s agent, multiple people around the NBA believe the Knicks would have an advantage in Embiid trade talks. Embiid signed a four-year, $210 million contract extension in 2021. The Knicks are “keeping an eye” on Embiid’s future with the Sixers, according to NBA insider Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports, in the wake of James Harden asking for a trade.

The Knicks could start Jalen Brunson, Quentin Grimes, Josh Hart, RJ Barrett and Embiid if New York’s front office figured out a way to acquire Embiid from Philadelphia.
