The Cavaliers went 51-31 last season. They faced the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2023 playoffs and lost the series in five games.

The Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans were interested in trading for Allen in the offseason, sources told NBA Analysis Network. The Cavaliers told the Mavericks and Pelicans that Allen was not available.

Allen has career NBA averages of 12.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks with the Brooklyn Nets and Cavaliers.

With Allen out, could the Cavaliers make a trade? Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report believes the Cavaliers should try to trade for Royce O’Neale, Caleb Martin or Josh Green.

“The Cavs don’t have much to spend after paying a fortune for Donovan Mitchell last offseason, but they might be able to reel in a mid-tier target like O’Neale (expendable with Brooklyn’s wing depth), Martin (a potential casualty of the Miami Heat’s Damian Lillard pursuit) or Green (a likely trade candidate should the Dallas Mavericks do anything major),” Buckley wrote in his latest NBA trade column.
