After contract extension negotiations stalled out, Buddy Hield and the Indiana Pacers have started dialogue to work on finding a potential trade with another team, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Hield is open to getting traded, but no deal is imminent and there aren’t any current substantive talks with any other team. The Pacers did offer Hield an extension in recent weeks, but it’s believed their proposal did not make the shooting guard feel desired.
Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan talked about the Hield situation with NBA reporters on September 26. Here’s what he had to say:

“Buddy is somebody we love having on our team,” Buchanan told NBA reporters. “We want him on our team this year. The business of basketball comes into play sometimes. We’ve had talks with him about an extension and those talks right now are at a halt I’d say. That’s not to say they’re done. We’d like to have Buddy with us. We have no intention to move Buddy, but it’s also our job to listen to opportunities if it helps improve our team. That’s what we have to do as a front office, but our intention is to have Buddy on the team this year and have him be a big part of our group.”
Hield is one of the best shooters of all time. He was second in the NBA last season in 3-point field goals (288) and shot 42.5% from beyond the arc. The 30-year-old Oklahoma product is a career 40.2% shooter from 3-point land, which is good for 39th in NBA history.
Hield has career NBA averages of 16.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He put up 16.8 points per game last season in 80 games for the Pacers.

Multiple teams are expected to express interest in a possible trade for Hield and those conversations are expected to increase as NBA training camps open up over the next two weeks.
