1 Player Likely To Be Traded By Boston Celtics Soon

Boston Celtics, NBA Trade Rumors

The Boston Celtics made some major changes to their roster this offseason. The team’s rotation is going to look much different around their All-Star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who have a few new members in the supporting cast.

The biggest change is the addition of Kristaps Porzingis as their new No. 3 option. Porzingis was acquired from the Washington Wizards in a three-team trade that also included the Memphis Grizzlies.

As part of the deal, the Celtics traded Marcus Smart to Memphis. They also received Marcus Sasser and a 2024 first-round pick along with Porzingis. Without Smart, the team’s backcourt rotation is going to look different.

Right now, Derrick White looks like he is entrenched as the team’s starting point guard with Payton Pritchard as his backup. The team still has veteran Malcolm Brogdon to lead the second unit, but Andy Quach of Sir Charles in Charge believes that Brogdon could eventually be on the move.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Malcolm Brogdon & Boston Celtics Updates

Quach recently highlighted a player on each NBA team that could be moved during the season. Brogdon was his selection for the Celtics, who are short on tradeable assets unless they want to break up the Tatum and Brown pairing. That seems unlikely as there isn’t a team in the NBA that wants Brown’s contract after he signed the largest extension in league history this offseason.

“While Brogdon had his moments for Boston last season, he certainly took a step back from the production he had with the Indiana Pacers. With Brown’s new supermax contract extension on the books and Derrick White’s ascension into a reliable, above-average starter, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Brogdon and his $45 million owed over the next two seasons nominated as the sacrificial lamb if the Cs find themselves needing to make a roster move next season.”

Brogdon was involved in some trade rumors this offseason, so he is someone that the Celtics are likely open to moving in the right deal. If not him, their depth in the frontcourt could also be used to facilitate a deal.

With Porzingis now in the fold, Robert Williams III has seemingly become expendable. But, the Celtics could opt to hold onto him as insurance for Al Horford, who turned 37 this summer, and Porzingis, who has had injury concerns throughout his career.
