The Golden State Warriors are looking to add depth and experience to their front court this off-season. According to Shams Charania, eight-time NBA All-Star Dwight Howard will meet with the Warriors next week. Howard could be the perfect fit for a team like the Warriors and here are three reasons why.

The Warriors were 25th in the league last season in blocks with four per game. Howard twice in his prime averaged nearly three blocks per game. He is averaging nearly two per game for his career. He is a three time defensive player of the year for a reason and the Warriors can use some of that on their squad.

The Warriors are known to be an offensive power house which has earned them four championships in the last decade. However, in each of their championships defense has been key and has helped spark their offense.

Howard provides much needed rebounding as well. He is a five-time rebounding champ in his career in the NBA. Golden State ranked 14th in offensive rebounding and that is something the former Magic standout can provide. He has averaged three offensive rebounds per game for his career, and has multiple seasons where he has four plus on the offensive boards.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Dwight Howard & Golden State Warriors Updates

Undoubtedly, the Warriors will need as much help in the front court as they can use. Kevon Looney was a work horse for the team last year but he can only provide so many minutes before fatigue sets in. The emphasis for the Warriors recently has been looking into signing big men to add to their roster. They signed former 23rd overall pick in the 2021 draft Usman Garuba to a two-way contract more recently. Despite that, Howard fits the role more immediately due to his experience and track record.

In 2020, Howard was able to help the Los Angeles Lakers win a championship. He can do the same with the Warriors because of his ability to come off the bench and not demand many minutes. He is far from the player he used to be in his prime in Orlando but that doesn’t take away from his resume.

Howard has stayed active after not finding home in the NBA last season playing in Taiwan. Fortunately for him, a team like the Warriors in need of an interior presence could be his way back to the league. Arguably a hall-of-famer, the former number one pick still has a way of putting a stamp on a game every now and then. Surprisingly, no one has looked to add him to the roster, and maybe by next week he’ll be part of the Warriors organization.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Dwight Howard & Golden State Warriors Updates

According to Draymond Green, the Warriors have two more championships they can add to their dynasty. In order to do that, securing a veteran center can change their trajectory and make them possible favorites in a competitive Western Conference.
