New Report Reveals Concerning Tyler Herro Issue With Heat

Tyler Herro’s basketball future is up in the air. He is an ascending player, but where he will be playing in the coming NBA seasons is currently unknown. If the Miami Heat have their way, he will be on the move to another franchise.

The Heat are trying tirelessly to acquire star point guard Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers. South Beach is where Lillard wants to be, but no traction has been made on negotiations and it is rather easy to see why.

Trading a player of Lillard’s caliber should result in the Trail Blazers receiving a monumental trade package. After seeing what the Utah Jazz received in trade packages for Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, Portland should be receiving multiple first-round picks and players in return for their star.

Alas, that isn’t a package that the Heat can put together. They would have to try including a third and potentially fourth team to find the assets the Trail Blazers are looking for. One of the players who would assuredly be involved in a blockbuster trade is Herro himself.

That is something that the Kentucky product hasn’t been a fan of. Herro has reportedly been unhappy about hearing his name pop up in so many trade rumors this offseason. Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated shared the update.

“I know—I’m fairly certain about this, Tyler Herro has not been pleased by all that’s gone on in Miami this offseason. How he’s been bandied about as filler in trade talks… He has not been happy with how his name has been tossed around in all these trade talks,” Mannix said on The Crossover.

In theory, a player of Herro’s caliber should be drawing a good amount of interest. He has averaged over 20 points per game in the last two seasons and is an excellent shooter. His improvement as a playmaker is also encouraging, but in the most important games, Herro doesn’t look to be a game-changer in the eyes of many franchises.

His performance during the 2022 postseason cratered. This past playoffs, the Heat went on a run to the NBA Finals without him. Teams would target him on defense as well in the postseason, which complicates things for Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra. On top of that, he signed a four-year, $120 million contract that kicks in this season.

The Heat have shown that they are willing to move anyone and anything if it gets them closer to winning an NBA Championship. While Herro may be disappointed to hear his name come up in rumors, that is how business goes sometimes in the NBA.
