One NBA writer is proposing that the Detroit Pistons acquire Tim Hardaway Jr. and Josh Green from the Dallas Mavericks in a bold trade. Lee Tran of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade idea between the Mavericks and Pistons:

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Bojan Bogdanovic

Detroit Pistons Receive: Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, 2025 Second-Round Pick (TOR), 2028 Second-Round Pick (MIA)

“Tim Hardaway Jr. is a player that could fill the veteran leadership void on the Detroit Pistons that would be there after the team hypothetically moved Bogdanovic,” Tran wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “Hardaway Jr. has been on multiple NBA playoff teams in the past, the Atlanta Hawks and the Dallas Mavericks. It is clear that Hardaway Jr. knows what winning basketball looks like. He could teach players such as Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, and Jaden Ivey how to win. On the court, Tim Hardaway Jr. profiles as a solid sixth-man type of player, and he could still play big minutes off the bench for the Detroit Pistons to maintain his value for future trades.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, Dallas Mavericks & Detroit Pistons Updates

“Josh Green would be the key young player that the Detroit Pistons would land in this trade package. The shooting guard had a solid NBA year in a 3-and-D role, averaging 9.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists over the course of last season. He also shot a solid 40.2% from beyond the arc, and it seems as though Green could be a great complementary player on the Detroit Pistons for a long time.”

Hardaway Jr. signed a four-year, $75 million contract with the Mavericks in August 2021. He averaged 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists last season while shooting 40.1% from the floor, 38.5% from 3 and 77.0% from the free-throw line. The Michigan product will make $17.9 million next season.

Meanwhile, Green appeared in 60 games for the Mavericks last season. He averaged 9.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 53.7% overall, 40.2% from 3-point range and 72.3% from the free-throw line.

The Mavericks have been trying to acquire Bogdanovic from the Pistons all summer long, sources told NBA Analysis Network. It will be fascinating to see if Dallas and Detroit agree on a deal.
