One NBA writer is proposing that the Los Angeles Clippers acquire Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors in a blockbuster trade. Tyler Watts of Fansided’s “Clipperholics” proposed that the Raptors trade Siakam and Otto Porter Jr. to the Clippers for Paul George.

“The Raptors are facing a difficult decision too,” Watts wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “Pascal Siakam is entering the final year of his contract. Toronto missed the playoffs last season and lost Fred VanVleet in free agency. Is a rebuild on the horizon, or do they sign Siakam long-term and build a better roster around him? Siakam has been in the rumors, and a challenge trade might benefit both sides. Paul George gives the Raptors an elite scorer at the three that would bring some added versatility. Siakam is bigger, younger, and closer to his prime. All of those traits could interest LA.”

Several NBA teams have shown interest in pursuing Siakam via trade over the past three months, but the external market has been tempered a bit due to the fact that it’s been made clear Siakam would not extend with a team that trades for him. Siakam can sign for 30 percent of the salary cap either now via extension or next offseason as a free agent with the Raptors or any other franchise.

The Raptors are eligible to sign Siakam to a maximum contract extension of four years and at least $192 million. Thus far, there have been no substantive conversations surrounding an extension. And for Siakam’s part, the NBA star has never requested to be traded.
