This has been an NBA offseason of change for the Philadephia 76ers, who also fired head coach Doc Rivers, replacing him with Nick Nurse. Nurse was fired by the Toronto Raptors earlier in the offseason but it didn’t take him long to find a new job in the City of Brotherly Love.
While Nurse is preparing for his first training camp with the team, more major changes could be on the way. Superstar James Harden has been disgruntled and is looking to be traded once again after spending only a year and a half with the franchise.
Harden has been critical of the franchise, calling general manager Daryl Morey a liar during an appearance at a basketball camp overseas. He wants to be traded, but as we’ve seen in the past, the 76ers aren’t going to cave in negotiations. They will make a deal, but only if it is one that they are comfortable with.
Never scared to chase stars, Morey will hold out until he receives an offer that meets his asking price. Despite the Harden drama, could he already have his sights set on his next superstar acquisition?
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers & Philadelphia 76ers Updates
During a recent episode of The Ringer’s “Mismatch” Podcast, NBA insider Kevin O’Connor floated the idea that LeBron James could join the 76ers in 2024. James has a player option on his contract after the 2023-24 season and it is widely expected that he will decline it to become a free agent.
“If its the big fish I think (Daryl) Morey’s target next summer will be LeBron James. It just makes sense logically, Chris, right? Who else would it be,” O’Connor said.
James has made his intentions clear for the end of his career; he wants to play with his son, Bronny, as the last thing on his to-do list. While his fate could be left up to the NBA Draft Lottery, as Bronny could be selected, Philadelphia is a franchise James would likely consider.

They have a superstar in place in Joel Embiid that makes them a perennial contender. In 2024, they will also have some money to spend, which could entice James to come to the City of Brotherly Love compared to other teams in the NBA.
