The Oklahoma City Thunder are a team that could really take off during the 2023-24 NBA season. After years of tanking, they have compiled quite a talented, young roster with a ton of upside. When taking into account the treasure chest of assets that general manager Sam Presti still has at his disposal, the Thunder are a team that is capable of making some splash acquisitions.
Oklahoma City is capable of building a trade package that can compete with any team in the NBA for any superstar that may be looking for a change of scenery. Selling them on playing for the Thunder could be challenging, but anyone looking to play for a sustained winner has to have this franchise on their radar.
With an established All-Star in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in place and rising players such as Josh Giddey, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, the Thunder could quickly become contenders in the Western Conference.
One player that could pique their interest is Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. The reigning MVP is stuck in limbo a little bit in Philadelphia, where the 76ers are dealing with James Harden drama.

If Embiid ever pushed for a trade, the Thunder should jump to the front of the line with an offer. Over at Sports Illustrated on Fan Nation, a hypothetical trade package was put together that would land him in Oklahoma City.
The blockbuster trade includes the Thunder sending Josh Giddey, Lu Dort, Davis Bertans, Ousmange Dieng, the 76ers’ first-round pick in 2025, a first-round pick via the Houston Rockets in 2026 and a first-rounder via the LA Clippers in 2026. This deal was made under the assumption that Embiid would play the 2023-24 campaign out with the 76ers before seeking a trade next offseason.
The 76ers would get some nice building blocks for the next phase of their franchise. Giddey has franchise-point guard upside and could blossom running his own team. The draft picks always have value and could help restock the roster or be used to acquire established talent.

For the Thunder, they would have one of the strongest duos in SGA and Embiid in the NBA. Williams and Holmgren continuing their development would result in the best quartet in the league as the Western Conference would be running through Oklahoma City in no time.
