Some NBA players just feel like trade candidates. For one reason or another, their current situation doesn’t suit them. Their teams may not trade them, but they’ll struggle to fight off speculation that they might.
Bojan Bogdanovic of the Detroit Pistons is one of those players. This is an NBA veteran. Bogdanovic is near the end of his career. Meanwhile, the rebuilding Pistons have a wide range of young players who need reps. With that context in mind, Bogdanovic is among the league’s premier trade targets.
Will the Pistons move him? It’s hard to say. The Pistons may hold onto their veteran wing in an effort to take a step forward this season. With that said, if they did decide to move him, they’d have a wide range of suitors. Bogdanovic is a strong shot-creator and an elite floor spacer. Los Angeles Lakers
On the other hand, this feels like an obvious fit. Bogdanovic is a veteran, and the Los Angeles Lakers are a veteran team. They should be looking to get LeBron James as much help as possible.
Meanwhile, the Lakers have spent their summer mostly acquiring young players. If they want to strike a deal with a rebuilding team, they’ll have the pieces to do it. If this team looks like they could use a boost ahead of the deadline, they could give the Pistons a call.

After all, Bogdanovic is the prototypical piece to add to a James-led team. His elite floor spacing will give James room to operate as a scorer and a playmaker. Moreover, Bogdanovic can create his own shot when James needs a break. Realistically any competitive team would be lucky to add the veteran sharpshooter.
New York Knicks
What’s the criteria here? What type of team should target Bogdanovic? For that matter, what will it take to land him? Whatever it takes, the New York Knicks should be able to offer it.
They check that box. This team has plenty of intriguing young players. They’ve got more draft capital than the Lakers, too. If the Knicks want Bogdanovic, he should be theirs.

They should want him. At times in 2022-23, the Knicks were stymied by RJ Barrett’s inconsistent shooting. By contrast, Bogdanovic is a sniper. With that in mind, any team looking to give their floor spacing a boost should be taking a look at Bogdanovic.
Dallas Mavericks
Why wouldn’t the Dallas Mavericks want to boost their shooting? All of the statements we made about James can apply to Luka Doncic. He’s an elite playmaker, so he needs to be surrounded by shooters. Dallas should be in the mix for Bogdanovic as well.
Like the previous two teams, they should have the pieces to add him. The Mavericks may need to part with both Jaden Hardy and Josh Green to make this happen. They shouldn’t hesitate. Dallas is built to win now – they’ve got no reason to refuse to include young players who won’t prominently crack their rotation in a deal.

Besides, the Mavericks could also use a third option. Doncic will run this offense, and Kyrie Irving is likely to handle the bulk of the scoring. After that, the Mavericks mostly roster role players. Bogdanovic is a third option who also compliments the team’s two biggest stars – if he’s even available, Dallas should go after him.
