Mavericks Trade For Pistons’ Bojan Bogdanovic In Bold Proposal

Bojan Bogdanovic, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, NBA Trade Rumors

Chemistry counts in the NBA. Players need to learn how to play together. Just ask the Dallas Mavericks. This team acquired Kyrie Irving at last year’s trade deadline. The Mavericks expected to win big following that acquisition. They did not meet those acquisitions.

Yet, the Mavericks retained Irving this summer anyway. That was the right thing to do. This team gave up assets to land Irving. They need to see what he and Luka Doncic can do together.

With that in mind, they also need to strengthen the rest of their roster. The Mavericks have done well this summer, but they could use a better third option behind their dynamic backcourt. How about Bojan Bogdanovic of the Detroit Pistons?

The Trade Proposal

Detroit Pistons Receive: G/F Tim Hardaway Jr., C JaVale McGee, 2027 First-Round Pick (DAL)
Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Bojan Bogdanovic, G Killian Hayes

Of course, the Pistons have got some chemistry building to do of their own. This team has one of the youngest core groups in the NBA. Unfortunately, last season, they weren’t able to get them as many reps together as they’d have liked.

After all, Cade Cunningham was sidelined for most of the season. He’s supposed to be Detroit’s franchise player. Without him, the Pistons couldn’t get an idea of what they’ve got.

With that in mind, the Pistons brought Bogdanovic on to be the elite floor spacer that would compliment their young core. Cutting ties with him before he gets a full season alongside Cunningham would be a bold decision. Is it the right one?

Why The Detroit Pistons Do The Deal

We think so. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be writing this article. Here’s the thing, Hardaway Jr. provides plenty of floor spacing. He can fulfill the role that the Pistons envisioned for Bogdanovic on a basic level. He’s also a solid veteran presence for this young team.

Giving up on Hayes will sting as well. Still, it doesn’t feel likely that he’s going to make good on his lottery selection. Meanwhile, with Cunningham and Jaden Ivey in the backcourt, there’s not a lot of room for him in Motor City.

So, getting a first-round pick makes sense for him. That’s the incentive for Detroit here. They get to keep a veteran floor spacer and add to their collection of draft capital. Should the Mavericks give a pickup for Bogdanovic?

Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal

Absolutely. This is a no-brainer for Dallas. After all, they’re firmly in win-now mode. This team doesn’t need to keep their draft capital. What they do need, once again, is a third option behind Doncic and Irving.

Bogdanovic would be perfect. There’s one main distinction between him and Hardaway Jr. Bogdanovic can be relied on to create his own shots.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks shouldn’t miss McGee either. This team retained Dwight Powell and acquired Richaun Holmes this summer. They’re set in the middle – they just need a third option. And, of course, a little chemistry.
