One NBA writer is proposing that the Orlando Magic acquire OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors in a blockbuster trade. Dan Favale of Bleacher Report proposed that the Magic trade Jonathan Isaac, Jalen Suggs and a 2025 first-round pick to the Raptors for Anunoby and Otto Porter Jr.

“For all of Orlando’s versatility, it wants for tantalizing combo wings beyond Franz Wagner,” Favale wrote. “Anunoby doesn’t quite bring the ball skills the half-court offense lacks, but he is five-position defense and semi-reliable three-point shooting tucked neatly into one, 6’7″ package.”

While the package Favale came up with isn’t bad, it’s worth mentioning that the Raptors are not interested in trading Anunoby, according to Michael Grange of SportsNet. Several teams are interested in acquiring Anunoby from the Raptors, most notably the New York Knicks, but Toronto hasn’t engaged in talks with anyone.

Anunoby averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season for the Raptors while shooting 47.6% from the floor, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 83.8% from the free-throw line. He signed a four-year, $72 million rookie contract extension with Toronto in December 2020.

Anunoby has career averages of 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists. The Indiana product won the 2019 championship with the Raptors over the Golden State Warriors in six games. Anunoby is one of the NBA’s elite perimeter defenders with the ability to guard multiple positions at a high level.

The Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies have been trying to acquire Anunobyfor the past few seasons. NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Raptors have been resisting trade inquiries for Anunoby, who recently left Klutch Sports Group for CAA.

Anunoby can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024. All signs point toward the star staying with the Raptors at least for one more year, so the Magic will have to find another player to trade for to accelerate their rebuild.
