Since Lonzo Ball is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 season, one NBA writer believes the Chicago Bulls should sign John Wall.
Wall held a private workout in Las Vegas last weekend. It’s unknown if the Bulls had anyone present at the workout, but Ben Stinar of Sports Illustrated has urged Chicago to add Wall.
“The Bulls have a talented roster that features DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic,” Stinar wrote. “Therefore, they need a guard who is an excellent distributor (Wall averages 8.9 assists per contest for his career). … Wall could likely be signed for a minimum contract at this stage of his career, meaning there would be no downside if he were not a good fit with the team.”
The Bulls signed Jevon Carter and re-signed Coby White this summer. Chicago is expected to start White, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Patrick Williams and Nikola Vucevic next season. Wall could be a quality Sixth Man for the Bulls, who missed the 2023 playoffs.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: John Wall & Chicago Bulls Updates
Wall appeared in 34 games for the Los Angeles Clippers last season. He averaged 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists while shooting 40.8% from the floor, 30.3% from beyond the arc and 68.1% from the free-throw line.
The Clippers traded Wall to the Houston Rockets at the 2023 February trade deadline. The Rockets waived Wall, who wasn’t signed by a team. The Clippers lost to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in five games. They replaced Wall with former MVP Russell Westbrook.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: John Wall & Chicago Bulls Updates
Wall, 32, has career averages of 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 8.9 assists in 647 games with the Washington Wizards, Rockets and Clippers. He has made five All-Star teams, one All-NBA team and one All-Defensive team, all coming with the Wizards.
It will be fascinating to see if Wall is signed by a team. While the Kentucky product is no longer a superstar, he’s still a capable scorer and passer.
