Damian Lillard wants to be a member of the Miami Heat and it’s taken over the NBA rumor mill. That’s fine. It is not necessary for the Portland Trail Blazers to send him there.

There is no no-trade clause in Lillard’s contract. In order to ensure that they get the best deal for their star point guard, Portland should look for the best deal they can get. 

It has been suggested that sending him to another organization could damage the perception of the organization if it was done. How long has it been since then?

The NBA teams have always strived to do what is best for their organization as long as they have been in existence. Is it possible that the Blazers will end up sending Lillard to Miami at some point in the future?

It is possible. There are situations in which that makes sense and there are others where it does not. As a result, we would not expect it to happen in the near future. 

They could send him to the Toronto Raptors instead.
