Dejounte Murray and the Atlanta Hawks have agreed to a four-year, $120 million extension, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and TNT. The Hawks acquired Murray from the San Antonio Spurs last offseason.
Murray averaged 20.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists for the Hawks in 2022-23 while shooting 46.4% from the field, 34.4% from beyond the arc and 83.2% from the free-throw line. He signed a four-year, $64 million rookie extension with the Spurs in October 2019. Murray will make $17.7 million next season.
The Hawks lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in six games. Murray didn’t play in Game 5 since he was suspended for making inappropriate contact with and verbally abusing a game official during Game 4 in Atlanta.
Murray has career averages of 14.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists with the Spurs and Hawks. There were some reports stating that Atlanta was thinking about trading Murray this summer. However, the franchise locked up Trae Young’s partner in crime.
