Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics are talking about an extension worth around $295 million, according to NBA insider Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

Brown is eligible to sign a designated veteran extension with the Celtics because he made an All-NBA team last season. The discussions are said to be “fragile.”

“The sides are talking. This is obviously a very important, fragile deal. I know there’s interest on both sides to get something done and I would expect it to head in that direction,” Windhorst said on July 3 during a SportsCenter hit. “I think it’ll get done, but he’s eligible up to 35 percent of the salary cap, but he doesn’t have to get that. The Celtics can negotiate on that. They can negotiate on the player option. They can negotiate on several things. It’s not as simple as saying, ‘Jaylen, here’s your contract. Sign it or not.’ There’s aspects within the deal you gotta negotiate.”

Brown has one year left on his current contract. The California product will make $28.5 million next season and hit unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2024 if the Celtics don’t sign him to an extension.

“It’s extremely important,” Tatum said. “He’s one of the best players in this league. He plays both ends of the ball and still is relatively young. And he’s accomplished a lot so far in his career. So I think it’s extremely important.”
