Marcus Smart will wear a Memphis Grizzlies uniform next NBA season. There is still something strange about it.
There is no denying that Smart has been the heart and soul of the Boston Celtics for a very long time. It is worth noting that this was the first player that Boston drafted during their rebuilding process. Now, he’s gone.
It is important to note that the Celtics did what they had to do. Smart may be one of the better defensive guards in the NBA, but with Derrick White and a healthy Malcolm Brogdon on the squad, he is no longer necessary.
In essence, the Celtics had a more pressing need for Kristaps Porzingis than they did for another guard, especially with how Al Horford is near the end of his NBA career.

Nevertheless, replacing Smart would be a sensible next step to take. Even better, if they were able to do it while bringing in a point guard with more traditional skills, that would be even better.
How about Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks?
