Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal 

Well, no. They just won’t have a choice. In this scenario, James Harden would be forcing his way onto the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Philadelphia 76ers don’t have the leverage they’d need to get value for their star guard. After all, Harden could have hit the open market, but the clear goal is to work on a trade with the Sixers.

If he intended on signing with the Clippers, they wouldn’t have had the space for him. With that in mind, the Sixers would be forced to acquiesce. 

This is still better than nothing. The Sixers are getting three players back who would be part of their rotation.
