Karl-Anthony Towns

There has been one major move made by the Minnesota Timberwolves in free agency so far. In the process of keeping Naz Reid on board, they gave him a considerable raise in salary.

That is good news for Reid. There’s no doubt that he deserves it. As a result of Reid’s extension, the Timberwolves have a lot of cap space to commit to big men now that he is locked up for the next few years.

In no way are we saying that Karl-Anthony Towns, Reid, and Rudy Gobert can’t co-exist together. In terms of his role as a combo big, Reid is a versatile player who can come off of the bench and play alongside either of the starters. In spite of this, it still feels like there is a misallocation of resources going on.

Especially when Towns is starting the game at the four for the Wolves in the first place. In terms of perimeter guarding, he cannot do it.

Towns may actually thrive in a situation where he’s playing the five alongside a few elite perimeter defenders as a result of those factors. In other words, a change is needed.
