The Golden State Warriors reached out to the Toronto Raptors on a trade centered on shooting guard Jordan Poole for small forward OG Anunoby, according to NBA insider Tim Kawakami of The Athletic.
The Raptors are not interested in moving Anunoby, who has been one of the most widely coveted players on the trade market throughout the past year. Meanwhile, the Warriors traded Poole to the Washington Wizards for point guard Chris Paul.
“One of the Warriors’ calls, I’m told, was to check with Toronto about a proposal centering on Poole for 25-year-old forward OG Anunoby,” Kawakami wrote. “But the Raptors weren’t interested.”
Anunoby signed a four-year, $72 million rookie contract extension with Toronto in December 2020. He has career averages of 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists. The Indiana product won the 2019 championship with the Raptors over the Warriors in six games.

Anunoby averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 2022-23 while shooting 47.6% from the floor, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 83.8% from the free-throw line. He remains one of the NBA’s elite perimeter defenders with the ability to guard multiple positions at a high level.
The Warriors were highly motivated to trade Poole after the Michigan product struggled in the 2023 playoffs. Poole signed a four-year, $128 million extension with the Warriors in October 2022. The extension kicks in next season. Poole averaged a career-high 20.4 points for the Warriors this past season while shooting 43.0% from the floor, 33.6% from 3 and 87.0% from the free-throw line.

However, Poole wasn’t able to carry over his regular-season success to the 2023 postseason. In 13 playoff games versus the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, Poole averaged 10.3 points while shooting an inefficient 34.1% overall and 25.4% from 3-point range.
