The Minnesota Timberwolves have made small forward Taurean Prince an unrestricted free agent, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Timberwolves didn’t guarantee Prince’s $7.4 million salary for the 2023-2024 season.

Prine appeared in 54 games for the Timberwolves this past season. He averaged 9.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 46.7% from the field, 38.1% from beyond the arc and 84.4% from the free-throw line.

The Timberwolves won 42 games and were the eighth seed in the 2023 Western Conference playoffs. They lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round in five quick games.

Prince has career averages of 10.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists with the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers and Timberwolves. He’s a career 37.2% shooter from 3, so there should be plenty of teams interested in signing the Baylor product once free agency opens on June 30.

Declining to guarantee Prince’s 2023-24 salary is the second move the Timberwolves have made this summer. They recently signed center Naz Reid to a three-year, $42 million contract extension. Reid would have become an unrestricted free agent on June 30 if he and the Timberwolves didn’t agree to an extension.

Reid averaged 11.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists this past season for the Timberwolves while shooting 53.7% from the floor, 34.6% from beyond the arc and 67.7% from the free-throw line. He suffered a left wrist injury on March 29 against the Phoenix Suns and underwent season-ending surgery.

Reid has career averages of 10.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists. The Los Angeles Lakers were going to pursue the LSU product had he not agreed to an extension with the Timberwolves, sources told NBA Analysis Network.

The Timberwolves must decide if All-Stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert can play together since they weren’t a good duo last season. It’s possible Minnesota may have to trade Towns or Gobert soon.
