The Oklahoma City Thunder are heading into the 2023 NBA free agency period looking to get themselves back into contention in the Western Conference. After making a run in the play-in tournament last season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and company want to take the next step. A lot of those hopes will rest on the health and development of young big man Chet Holmgren.
Holmgren was taken with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Unfortunately, his rookie season was over before it began due to injury.
All eyes have turned to Holmgren heading into his second NBA season. Fans can only hope that he will get back to full health and stay that way.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Oklahoma City Thunder & Chet Holmgren Updates
In a recent quote, Thunder general manager Sam Presti opened up and provided a massive health update on Holmgren.
“It is our hope that he’ll be out there (Summer League), our expectation. Chet is doing great. He has had a great offseason.”
Standing in at 7-foot-1 and 195 pounds, Holmgren is the type of piece that is missing in Oklahoma City. They needed a talented big man in the middle, both offensive and defensively. If he lives up to the hype, Holmgren should be the missing piece that does push the Thunder back into contention.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Oklahoma City Thunder & Chet Holmgren Updates
Back in the 2021-22 season with Gonzaga, Holmgren put together an impressive freshman season. He averaged 14.1 points per game to go along with 9.9 rebounds, 3.7 blocks, and 1.9 assists per game. In addition to those numbers, Holmgren shot 60.7 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 39 percent of his three-point attempts.
With that being said, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Chet Holmgren and the Thunder. This latest update is very promising and fans will begin to hype up the young big yet again. Hopefully, he will be able to hit the court and make a major impact for Oklahoma City.
