Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

Sure. After all, Hayward is on an expiring deal. Of course, so is Rose.

Meanwhile, Fournier only has one extra year left on his contract. The cap-clearing benefits here are not tremendous for either side. 

Still, moving off Fournier a year early is nice. It could give the Knicks some extra flexibility next summer. With that said, Hayward could make them better now. 

This isn’t strictly a financial move for the Knicks. Hayward is the best player in this trade.
