One NBA writer is proposing that the Washington Wizards trade Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed that the Wizards send Paul to the Clippers for Eric Gordon, Robert Covington and the 30th overall pick in the 2023 draft.
“For L.A., whether right or wrong, Covington was basically out of the rotation this season,” Bailey wrote. “And Eric Gordon was a midseason addition who barely moved the needle (the Clippers were actually worse with him on the floor in both the regular and postseason). Turning those roster spots into CP3, who averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists while posting a higher box plus/minus than Beal, would take some offensive responsibility from Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and undoubtedly raise the ceiling on L.A.’s halfcourt offense.
“Of course, this would also compound the Clippers already significant injury concerns, but if things go poorly on that front, L.A. can waive Paul’s entire 2024-25 salary next summer.”

The Clippers are interested in trading for Paul, who was traded by the Phoenix Suns to the Wizards in the Bradley Beal deal. CP3 is not expected to remain with the Wizards, who are rebuilding.
Paul’s wife and kids live in Los Angeles. The future Hall of Famer played six seasons for the Clippers and has a relationship with head coach Tyronn Lue and stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. This trade makes a lot of sense for both the Clippers and Wizards.

Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists this past season for the Suns while shooting 44.0% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 83.1% from the free-throw line. The 12-time All-Star is still looking to win his first title and he may be able to accomplish that goal by playing alongside Leonard and George.
