He may not be a superstar. Still, Barnes is the type of player who will start on most teams. This is a solid floor spacer who can create his own shot on occasion as well. 

Barnes is no slouch on defense, either. He may not be elite, but he’s solid positionally. Barnes can guard players his size, and even slot up a position when need be. 

Meanwhile,. the Mavericks need talent where they can find it. Assuming they can retain Kyrie Irving in free agency, they’ll need depth. Barnes would be a solid addition to this roster from that point of view.
