The Portland Trail Blazers want to compete next NBA season. Apparently, they’re willing to go to great lengths to do it.
To be precise, it’s being widely reported that they’re willing to move the third pick in the NBA draft. That’s an extremely valuable asset. Most teams in Portland’s position would hesitate to move off of it.
Of course, most teams in Portland’s situation wouldn’t have Damian Lillard on their roster. That puts the Blazers in an interesting position. They have a lottery pick, but they also have a superstar in his prime.
Do they have to move the pick to improve around Lillard? Sure, it would help.
At the same time, the Blazers may be able to make some moves that help them improve without trading that pick.
