NBA insider Alan Hahn of ESPN wants to see the New York Knicks go after Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal this offseason.

Hahn believes the Knicks have the young players and draft picks needed to acquire Beal from the Wizards.

Beal signed a five-year, $251 million maximum contract with the Wizards in July 2022. The deal has a no-trade clause, so Beal can only be traded if he agrees to a trade.

The three-time All-Star averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists this season while shooting 50.6% from the field, 36.5% from beyond the arc and 84.2% from the free-throw line.

The Knicks lost to the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games. They could use a star player like Beal next to point guard Jalen Brunson and power forward Julius Randle. Beal, a St. Louis native, has career averages of 22.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

Beal has never requested a trade from the Wizards. He has remained very loyal to the franchise despite the team never coming close to winning a championship. While it’s unlikely Beal will waive his no-trade clause this offseason, it can’t hurt the Knicks to call the Wizards and tell them what they are willing to give up for Beal.

Many rival executives The Athletic polled informally over the last two weeks expect new Wizards president Michael Winger to undertake a full rebuild, if not this offseason, then within the next year.

“The raw, unfiltered truth is, I haven’t yet crafted the immediate vision for the franchise,” Winger told Josh Robbins of The Athletic. “There are a lot of talented and high-character players on the team. I want to get to know them a little bit. The construct of a team isn’t just a matter of what is demonstrated on the court. It’s not just a matter of the box score. Team dynamics are personal, and I think that I need to understand those things before hatching an actionable plan. And I know that that’s not necessarily measurable in this moment. But it is the truth.”
