Sure. Otherwise, they’ll lose Wood for nothing anyway. That’s not to say that the Mavericks are getting a lot of value here.

That’s how sign-and-trades work. The Lakers are only sending them anything so that they can make room for Wood. 

With that in mind, this is a loss for Dallas. They traded a first-round pick for, ultimately, Mo Bamba instead of Christian Wood.

On the other hand, that could potentially work out. After all, Bamba is still a young player with some intrigue.
