The Orlando Magic could be a suitor if the Washington Wizards decide to move on from Bradley Beal. Another free agent to keep an eye out for the Magic is Miami Heat sharpshooter Max Strus, according to NBA insider Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.
Strus becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He averaged 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Heat this season while shooting 41.0% from the field, 35.0% from beyond the arc and 87.6% from the free-throw line. The Illinois native made 197 3-pointers, which ranked 21st in the NBA.
Strus will have made over $3.9 million in his career once free agency starts. He has career averages of 10.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Chicago Bulls and Heat.
The Magic won 34 games this season. They have a talented young core headlined by Paolo Banchero, Markelle Fultz, Bol Bol, Franz Wagner, Cole Anthony, Wendell Carter Jr., Jalen Suggs and Jonathan Isaac. Adding Strus would give Orlando a lethal 3-point shooter, something every team in the NBA needs.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Max Strus, Miami Heat & Orlando Magic Updates
It’s worth mentioning, though, that all the aforementioned players above may not be back next season.
“Other sources say Orlando will keep Markelle Fultz, Gary Harris and Bol,” Pincus wrote. “If so, the franchise can reach about $38 million in cap space by stretching Isaac, which should be more than enough for VanVleet or another veteran free agent. Look for Cole Anthony to be available via trade, as he and Chuma Okeke are extension eligible.”
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Max Strus, Miami Heat & Orlando Magic Updates
The Magic could be a play-in team next season if the front office makes smart moves this offseason. Orlando is clearly a team to watch for the future and it will be fascinating to see if they can steal Strus from the Heat, who lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals in five games.
