Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal 

Yes. That’s all this is – literally better than nothing. 

Typically, that’s all teams can expect out of a sign and trade. This deal only occurs if Irving specifically wants to join the Heat. If the Mavericks don’t acquiesce, Miami can clear these contracts elsewhere and sign him as a free agent. 

In other words, if Irving wants to leave, the Mavericks are in trouble no matter what. All this does is soften the blow. The Mavericks are getting three players here that should find their way into their rotation. 

Who knows? Perhaps Oladipo recaptures some of his previous star form.

Either way, the Mavericks are in no position to negotiate here. They have to take what they can get.
