Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal
The Spurs could justify this in several ways. It could help them now, and later. At the present, theyre landing two veterans who will help Wembanyama’s development.
Collin Sexton and Kelly Olynyk might help them win more games next year as well. Sexton is known to be an aggressive scorer, but he comes with some upside in a larger role. Perhaps that could intrigue San Antonio to test.
On the other hand, the three first-round picks they’re landing would help them in the future. If the Spurs are interested in trading for Wemby’s co-star in a few years, they’ll suddenly have one of the best collections of draft capital in the NBA.
Is this deal too good to be true? No. The Spurs are losing Keldon Johnson. At the same time, the pros may outweigh the cons here.
