Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
If the Jazz didn’t tank this year, they probably aren’t going to tank. This was the year to do it. There’s no Wembanyama in the next draft.
In fact, as much talent as we regularly see coming into the NBA, we may not ever see a Wembanyama again. A strong start to the season was enough to see for them to simply value competing for much of their campaign.
Meanwhile, this Jazz team has plenty of good young players already. Markkanen was an All-NBA player this season, and Walker Kessler has All-Defense potential.
Why not add a shot-creating wing? Johnson is young enough to be part of this young core. At the same time, he’s proven enough as a productive NBA player to help the Jazz stay competitive.

With an ability to aggressively attack the paint, Johnson could add a needed element alongside the shooting that Markkanen provides. Kessler’s play finishing could be further enhanced as a result, too.
Should the Spurs really part with him?
