Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal 

This could shake out in a couple of different ways for the Sixers. Obviously, we’re talking about James Harden. 

If he’s staying, this could still work. VanVleet is a solid off-ball player. There’s no reason to assume that he wouldn’t be able to co-exist with Harden. 

On the other hand, suppose Harden leaves. The Sixers may be in trouble. This team doesn’t have the assets to replace Harden without trading Tyrese Maxey.

Unless they can arrange a sign and trade. The Sixers won’t have to give up market value to acquire a player that way.

In other words, this could be a franchise-saving move for the Sixers.
