Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal 

The Celtics will definitely have to do so some soul-searching this summer. With the new CBA forthcoming, they’ll have to think about money, too. 

Sure, they could extend Brown. In doing so, they’d be committing to a long-term core of Brown and Jayson Tatum. Those two would be collecting a massive portion of their available salary cap. 

Given Brown’s limitations, that could be concerning. Here, they’re flipping his contract for George. He’s on a huge contract, but it will expire in two seasons.

On the other hand, he could actually make this team better. Meanwhile, given his advanced age compared to Brown, the Celtics are also landing a first-round pick here. For Boston, this is about smart asset management. 

Unless they value Brown more than this, that is.
